Meet the Beekeeper
Meet Scot Jackson
The short version: I fell in love with bees and made every beginner mistake possible. Now I’m making sure your experience is nothing like mine.
The real story:
I started San Francisco Peaks Apiary because I believe everyone should experience the wonder of bees—without the steep learning curve I went through.
My first year of beekeeping was humbling. I lost queens, made splitting mistakes, dealt with laying workers, and learned that Flagstaff’s short summer season requires different strategies than standard beekeeping advice. But here’s what I discovered: my background in problem-solving meant I approached every setback as a learning opportunity. I took copious notes. I studied voraciously. I figured out what works—and what doesn’t—at 7,000 feet elevation.
What I bring to your backyard hive:
My diverse career in high-stakes roles serves your bees well. I’ve managed complex systems in Army communications, taught 125 commercial drivers (with over 1 million accident-free miles), and ran a $5 million restaurant operation. I approach beekeeping with the same meticulous attention to safety, consistency, and customer care that these roles demanded.
You’re not getting a beekeeper who learned 30 years ago and operates on autopilot. You’re getting someone who:
Researches current best practices constantly
Understands what works specifically in Flagstaff’s climate
Approaches every hive with careful attention (never overconfident)
Documents everything meticulously
Treats your backyard like it’s my own family’s property
I inspect hives every 7-10 days because I know firsthand how quickly situations can change. I use only gentle European genetics because I understand the importance of peace of mind for you and your neighbors. I maintain detailed records on every hive because my military and management training taught me that documentation prevents problems.
You get the benefit of my hard-won knowledge without any of the trial and error. Your hive starts with best practices I’ve researched, tested, and refined specifically for Flagstaff’s unique climate and short growing season.
Plus, I can explain everything in plain English, not beekeeping jargon—because I remember what it’s like to be confused.
I’m passionate about giving you the carefree experience I wish I’d had. Your backyard bees deserve someone who treats them like their success depends on it—because it does.
